On Saturday, April 5, 2024, at dawn, at least three Haitians in an irregular migration situation were struck by a vehicle while running with others, fleeing a Dominican army patrol that was pursuing them to arrest them in the municipality of Sabana Yegua (Azua Province). Several other Haitians were injured in the accident.

According to witnesses, the military intervened as approximately fifteen Haitians were about to board a vehicle to be transported to a farm in the area.

According to witnesses, upon seeing the military patrol, the Haitians panicked and began running to avoid capture when the accident occurred. A number of them managed to escape.
