iciHaiti - Condolences : Collapse of the roof of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo
Following the collapse of the roof of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo on the night of April 7-8, which left at least 218 dead, including Haitian doctor Wilnor Denaud , and injured 155 others, Prime Minister Fils Aimé stated :

"The Haitian Government learned with immense sadness of the terrible tragedy that struck the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo on the night of April 7-8, taking so many innocent lives and plunging the Dominican Republic into mourning.

Today, Haiti's tears mingle with those of its Dominican sister. The Prime Minister, speaking on behalf of a grieving people, expresses, on behalf of the entire Haitian nation and on his own behalf, his deep sorrow at this cruel loss. Our hearts beat in unison with those of the devastated families, the grieving friends, and an entire nation stricken with grief."

We bow, silent and reverent, before the radiance of lives taken too soon. In the darkness of this ordeal, Haiti extends its hand to the Dominican Republic, as it always has, as it always will. For our two peoples, united by a common history, a vibrant culture, and a shared geography, form a single soul in the face of adversity.

In these dark hours, the Haitian Government reaffirms its commitment to walk side by side with the Dominican Republic, offering its unreserved support and comfort as we work together through this unspeakable pain."

Reacting to this tragedy, Kathia Verdier, the Minister for Haitians Living Abroad, declared "[...] I express my deepest emotion and my profound solidarity with our Haitian compatriots and the Dominican people, who were severely affected by the tragedy that occurred on the night of April 7-8, 2025, at the JetSet Club in the Dominican Republic.

I bow with respect to the memory of the victims. My most sincere thoughts are with the bereaved families, the injured, and all those affected by this heartbreaking tragedy. On behalf of the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the brotherly people of the Dominican Republic. In this ordeal, our hearts beat as one. Beyond borders, it is a single humanity that suffers, mourns, and rises together."
