iciHaiti - Venezuela : New Ambassador of Haiti
On Friday, April 11, 2025, Jean Mary Vaval, the new Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Haiti to Venezuela, arrived in Caracas. At Simón Bolívar International Airport, he was greeted by Gustavo Díaz Aular, Director General for the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who welcomed the new ambassador and conveyed a message of support and friendship from the Venezuelan authorities.

Ambassador Vaval, who previously served as Counselor at the Embassy of Haiti in Caracas, will soon present his official credentials to Minister of Foreign Affairs Yván Gil Pinto and his official credentials to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros to assume his duties as Haiti's new diplomatic representative to Venezuela.

This appointment is another sign of the deepening political relationship between the two governments, whose peoples have shared a common bond in the cause of independence for centuries. It should be remembered that Haiti supported Simón Bolívar during the Venezuelan War of Liberation and offered him asylum after his flight following the fall of the Second Republic in 1815. Haiti also provided supplies and troops to the Liberator in 1816 upon his return to Venezuela.

Despite these positive approaches, the two nations did not establish diplomatic relations until July 10, 1864. Venezuela was the first South American Nation to recognize Haiti's independence, while the Caribbean nation was the seventeenth to recognize Caracas.
