iciHaiti - Cité Soleil : Launch of rehabilitation work on Sainte-Marie Hospital

The Pan American Development Foundation (PADF-Haiti) officially launched the rehabilitation of Sainte-Marie Hospital in Cité Soleil, a strategic project addressing the urgent needs of the community.

In collaboration with the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), the Cité Soleil City Hall, and with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) is implementing this project to improve access to healthcare, empower women and men, and create more opportunities for young people.

Work includes :

• Complete rehabilitation of the hospital;

• Roof repairs;

• Strengthening the structure and spaces;

• Landscaping the courtyard;

• Repairing the fence and windows;

• Improving the restrooms and sanitation system.

Objectives :

• Improve access to healthcare for the population of Cité Soleil, particularly through a Cholera Treatment Center (CTC);

• Create 211 temporary jobs, 50% of which are reserved for women;

• Offer technical training at a Work Site School, with certification from the National Institute of Vocational Training (INFP);

• Provide socio-emotional support and health insurance for workers.

It should be noted that Sainte-Marie Hospital has served the community since 2010, but since 2022, its operations have become difficult. Thanks to this project, it will regain its full capacity to provide quality care.
