On Friday, April 25, 2025, at Saint-Pierre Church in Pétion-ville, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, Presidential Advisors Leslie Voltaire, Smith Augustin, and Régine Abraham, several members of the government, representatives of the diplomatic corps, several international organizations, and several members of civil society, attended the Mass of Thanksgiving for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis, celebrated by Monsignor Max Leroy Mésidor.
In his homily, the Archbishop of Port-au-Prince paid tribute to Pope Francis, whom he considers a reformer who brought much renewal to the Church. "He was a good leader who always showed solidarity with the poorest. He always fought against all social injustices and remained close to Haiti through all the crises it faced." Archbishop Max Leroy Mésidor declared Pope Francis to be one of Haiti's best friends. He also took the opportunity to ask the population to live in harmony and encouraged the authorities to continue the tireless struggle to establish peace in Haiti.
