On Thursday, April 24, 2025, President Luis Abinader visited the border provinces after announcing a series of measures to strengthen immigration control. He was accompanied by Defense Minister Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre and Army Commander-in-Chief Iván Camino Pérez.

President Abinader addressed members of the Dominican Army at the General Francisco A. Salcedo Fortress in the province of Dajabón, emphasizing the need for strict border controls and warning the Army that allowing an illegal immigrant to pass through would be unacceptable. He emphasized the importance of monitoring the border with the utmost zeal.

Abinader commended the Army for its work and urged it to redouble its efforts. He emphasized that border protection was a matter of national security, given the situation in Haiti. He expressed his confidence in the army's ability to meet this challenge and maintain its vigilance.

After inspecting the border wall, President Abinader traveled to Elías Piña and then to Jimaní.
