On Thursday, May 1st, 2025, the Confederation of North, Central American, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) released a memo detailing the qualification process for the 2026 FIFA World Cup (June 11 to July 19, 2026), co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The memo outlines the various stages leading up to the global competition : a first round in March 2024, a second round between June 2024 and June 2025, and a third and final round in September, October, and November 2025.

The Confederation emphasizes the importance of the second round, which will conclude on June 10. This round will determine the 12 teams qualified for the final tournament. These teams will be the top two from each of the six groups. A draw, scheduled for June 12, will determine the composition of the three groups of four teams that will compete in the third and final round.

In this third round, each team will participate in six matches (three first legs, three second legs). At the end of this phase, the three group winners will qualify directly for the World Cup, while the two best runners-up will advance to the intercontinental play-offs.
