iciHaiti - Dom. Rep. : The expulsion of pregnant and breastfeeding women is worrying
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that the humanitarian team in Haiti is deeply concerned by the increasing number of pregnant and breastfeeding women being deported from the Dominican Republic to Haiti, in violation of international standards.

Partners at border crossings report assisting approximately 30 pregnant or breastfeeding women every day during April 2025.

Ulrika Richardson, the Humanitarian Coordinator in Haiti, expressed serious concerns about the humanitarian and human rights consequences of these deportations, particularly for pregnant women and mothers of young children. She emphasized the importance of respecting commitments to protect vulnerable people.

Haiti is in the grip of a complex humanitarian crisis, exacerbated by persistent armed violence that is leading to population displacement and famine. Nearly half of the population, more than 5.7 million people, faces acute food insecurity.

Despite persistent insecurity and severe funding gaps, the UN and its partners continue to do everything they can, complementing the efforts of national authorities, to mobilize vital assistance for people in need, including food, clean water, healthcare, hygiene kits, temporary shelter, and psychosocial support.
