iciHaiti - Heritage : Creation of the «National Register of Memory of the World»

Patrick Delatour, Minister of Culture and Communication, informs the general public, and specialists in particular, of the creation of the "National Register of Memory of the World" in accordance with the Constitution, the Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict (1954); the Recommendation for the Safeguarding and Preservation of Moving Images (1980); the Recommendation concerning the Memory of the World Programme (1992); the Charter on the Preservation of Digital Heritage (2003); the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005); and the Recommendation Concerning the Preservation of and Accessibility to Documentary Heritage, Including Digital Heritage (2015).
Therefore, the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO, has resolved to recognize, with immediate effect, "Le Nouvelliste and its Archives," the "Haitian Society of History, Geography, and Geology and its Archives," the "Library of the Brothers of Christian Instruction and its Archives," and the "Haitian Library of the Spiritan Brothers and its Archives" as "memory institutions" and to include them in the "National Register of Memory of the World".
By this inclusion in the "National Register of Memory of the World" the Ministry affirms its commitment to strengthening memory institutions, working to preserve fragile and endangered documents, and reaffirms the importance of documentary and digital heritage, its contribution to research, education, entertainment, preservation over time, and the fight against collective amnesia.
