iciHaïti - Justice : Defense of the fundamental rights of Haitians living abroad
Tuesday, May 27, 2025, As part of the implementation of a public policy focused on defending the fundamental rights of Haitians living abroad, Minister of the Diaspora Kathia Verdier (MHAVE) received Jude Jean Pierre, Director General of the Office for Citizen Protection (OPC).

This meeting is part of MHAVE's commitment to strengthening institutional mechanisms for defending the rights of our compatriots in the diaspora, particularly in contexts of migration, forced return, or attacks on the property and integrity of Haitian nationals abroad.

The discussions focused in particular on :

• The establishment of a collaboration protocol between MHAVE and the OPC to facilitate the handling of cases of rights violations reported by compatriots living abroad;
• The involvement of the OPC will enable the MHAVE to structure its actions around solid institutional mechanisms to safeguard the rights of Haitians abroad;
• The promotion of an inter-institutional approach to advocacy for compliance with Haiti's international human rights commitments, particularly those enshrined in regional and international conventions ratified by the Haitian government.

Minister Verdier reiterated the importance of anchoring human rights at the heart of migration policy and governance. She emphasized that "any strategy of reconstruction and national mobilization cannot succeed without guaranteeing that every Haitian can live with dignity, justice, and equality, wherever they are in the world."
