iciHaiti - Hurricane Season : The municipalities of Grand’Anse and the Northwest strengthen their response capacity
The hurricane season, which began on June 1st, is expected to be more intense than normal https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45007-haiti-flash-d-3-all-the-forecasts-for-the-2025-hurricane-season.html . The 22 municipalities of Grand'Anse and the Northwest have strengthened their response capacity by each developing a Multi-Risk Municipal Contingency Plan (PCCM).

These plans, developed with the support of the Departmental Directorates of Civil Protection of Grand'Anse and the Northwest, as well as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and funded by Global Affairs Canada and the Government of Japan, enable :

• The identification of at-risk areas;
• The planning of appropriate responses in the event of an alert;
• The implementation of concrete actions :
- Community awareness raising;
- Training and deployment of rapid response teams (RRTs);
- Building resilient infrastructure;
- Effective inter-institutional coordination.

These documents play a crucial role in strengthening the local preparedness system and also support post-disaster recovery. They clearly define the most vulnerable areas, roles, responsibilities, and procedures to follow in the event of a crisis, thus making municipalities more self-sufficient, better prepared, and more resilient.
