iciHaiti - Politic : 2nd Conference of the Sectoral Table on Security
Haiti is facing a rise in gang violence, which controls a significant portion of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area and other cities across the country. The efforts of the security forces have proven insufficient to contain this situation. In this context, characterized by a dysfunctional justice system, suspected corruption, and a lack of resources, how can security forces be supported through a judicial response?

With this in mind, the Security Sector Table (TSS), a forum for dialogue and interaction between human rights organizations, civil society, and state institutions responsible for security, held its second conference on Thursday, June 5, 2025. The theme of the conference was "The Judicial Response to Support the Efforts of Security Forces in the Fight Against Insecurity in Haiti: Challenges and Opportunities."

Among the issues discussed were the establishment of specialized judicial units to handle the cases of suspected criminals arrested by the police, the role of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security in finding solutions to the security crisis, support for the training of police officers responsible for preparing the cases of arrested persons, and the establishment of appropriate security conditions for judges handling sensitive cases.

Participants recognized the urgency of a concerted response to the magnitude of the security crisis and the need to strengthen institutions and protect judicial actors who are also exposed to insecurity.

Participants in this Sectoral Table included: the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP); the Office for Citizen Protection (OPC); the Haitian National Police (IGPNH); the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd'H); the Ministry of Defense; the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ); The Dean of the Port-au-Prince Court of First Instance and the Government Commissioner.
