iciHaiti - Tourism : Strengthening the operational capacities of PoliTOUR
John Herrick Dessources, Minister of Tourism, met with officers of the Tourist Police (PoliTOUR) at the Haiti Hotel School in Pétion-ville. This meeting is part of a series of initiatives by the Ministry aimed at strengthening the operational capabilities of this police unit and promoting its central role in the development of tourism in Haiti.

During this meeting, the Minister expressed his gratitude to the officers for the remarkable work they perform, often under particularly difficult conditions. He urged them to maintain their calm, professionalism, and sense of duty in a complex security context, emphasizing that their behavior and commitment are directly linked to the country's image.

Dessources stated, "You are the country's leading tourism agents, the faces of Haitian hospitality. Your mission goes far beyond security : you contribute to building trust and promoting our heritage."

The Minister also presented several ongoing initiatives as part of the PoliTour strengthening project, in line with the strategic plan to modernize the tourism sector:

- Ongoing training for officers, including modules on police rights and responsibilities, modern languages, first aid, and the protection of tourist sites, among others;

- Completion of the renovation of the PoliTour premises at Champ de Mars, as well as those at the international airport and the Cap-Haïtien office;

- Acquisition of essential equipment, such as computers, printers, vehicles, and other work tools.

The officers, for their part, welcomed this approach of listening and dialogue, while expressing the challenges they face.

The Minister announced that certain requests will be forwarded or reviewed in coordination with the Haitian National Police and the Ministry of Justice, including:

• A possible increase in the quarterly fees allocated to officers;
• Additional weapons and ammunition;
• Increasing PoliTOUR staff.

Finally, the Minister committed to meeting soon with the 32 PoliTOUR agents assigned to the North department to continue this cycle of consultation and mobilization.
