iciHaïti - Obituary : Death of musician Richard Duroseau
Patrick Delatour, the Minister of Culture, learned with deep sadness the news of the passing of Richard Duroseau at the age of 85. This distinguished musician, an emblematic figure of the Compas Direct movement, passed away on June 23, 2025, in New York.

A rigorous and passionate educator, Richard Duroseau leaves behind a prolific body of work and a firm commitment to promoting Haitian music, particularly compas and jazz. His contribution to the training of several generations of artists makes him a key figure in the Haitian cultural and artistic world.

A refined composer and virtuoso performer, Richard Duroseau dedicated his life to the transmission of musical knowledge and the promotion of Haitian art. His reputation extends beyond our borders. The nation has lost a master, a role model, a monument.

Patrick Delatour, Minister of Culture, respectfully bows before the memory of this man of culture and offers his condolences to his family, loved ones, the artistic community, and all those who were touched by his career, his humanity, and his talent.
