iciHaiti - EDH : Slow restoration of electricity in the capital

Electricité d'Haïti (EDH) informs its customers that the drastic electricity rationing recently observed in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area is primarily due to the forced shutdown of the Péligre hydroelectric power plant on June 17, 2025, as well as the sabotage of five 115,000-volt transmission pylons supplying Port-au-Prince by radical protesters from Mirebalais against insecurity. These incidents require major repairs and a large-scale logistical mobilization to find appropriate solutions and alternatives.

Electricité d'Haïti, which is forced to operate its thermal power plants during the rainy season, wishes to inform its customers that power will be restored in certain areas of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, based on current production availability, and is working hard to return to normal as soon as possible.

The General Directorate reiterates its call for calm, restraint, understanding, and patience from its customers and the general public until normal power distribution resumes across all circuits.
