iciHaiti - PAHO : Significant donation of equipment to strengthen vaccination

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), with financial support from the Government of Canada through the CanGIVE initiative, has donated a large batch of equipment to the Ministry of Public Health to strengthen the Department of the Expanded Program on Immunization (DPEV).

This donation will benefit selected health facilities that provide routine vaccination services, including COVID-19 vaccination, across the country. It aims to improve access, quality, and continuity of vaccination services, particularly in remote areas and displacement sites. The donation consists of equipment, office furniture, and communication and awareness materials on vaccination.

The equipment and furniture donated were intended solely for the West Department. They are part of a larger batch intended for 196 health facilities in the country's 10 departments, which includes :

- 844 units of furniture and equipment (folding tables, metal filing cabinets, cork boards)

- 7,199 cardboard filing cabinets;

- 2,006 folding chairs for offices and waiting rooms;

- 367 pieces of equipment (fans, rechargeable megaphones);

- 183 timelines for tracking lost children.

As for communication and awareness materials, the quantity produced covers the needs of 496 health facilities in five departments : Artibonite, Grand'Anse, Nord, North-West, and West. They include :

- 1,488 image boxes;

- 14,880 posters to raise awareness among pregnant women about maternal and neonatal tetanus vaccination;

- 64,480 posters to raise awareness among the public about diphtheria;

- 496,000 leaflets to raise awareness about diphtheria; - 496,000 awareness leaflets on vaccine-preventable diseases in general.

PAHO reiterates its commitment to supporting the Ministry of Public Health in ensuring equitable access to vaccines, combating vaccine hesitancy, and saving lives throughout Haiti.
