iciHaiti - Health : Cholera continues to affect the population

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that cholera continues to affect the public health system in Haiti, particularly in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) sites where access to safe drinking water and sanitation is limited. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), between July 13 and 19, 2025, 34 new suspected cases of cholera were reported in six departments.

Most of these cases were linked to IDP sites. Five hotspots of active transmission have been identified, notably in the capital, Port-au-Prince, and in the northern regions.

Despite funding shortfalls, humanitarian partners continue to carry out essential cholera prevention and control activities.

In the Artibonite department, families received water purification tablets and oral rehydration salts. In central Haiti, partners installed handwashing stations and intensified community outreach efforts.

In the north, efforts are being made to contain the spread of cholera : latrines and homes are being disinfected, and preventative treatments are being distributed.
