iciHaiti - Security : Farmers finally get their rice reserves
For months, residents of the Dofunor area (Artibonite) endured severe hardship at the hands of armed gangs. But on Monday, August 18, 2025, joint operations by the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) and the Haitian National Police (PNH) pushed the gangs out, restoring security and giving farmers the long-awaited opportunity to access their rice stores.

Under the protection of MSS and PNH patrol teams, farmers turned out in large numbers to collect their rice from community storage facilities. Security teams maintained constant vigilance across Petit Rivière township and along key routes toward Palmiste, Laverdure, Canal, and the cemetery, ensuring locals could move safely.

While access to Segur remains cut off due to gang-dug trenches and the destroyed bridge at Palmiste, law enforcement remain determined to reopen this critical route. Heavy equipment is already being deployed to clear obstacles and restore free movement so that residents can once again reach their farms and homes.

MSS Force Commander Godfrey Otunge, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Petite Rivière and the wider Artibonite region for their trust, resilience, and cooperation with MSS and PNH teams. He reaffirmed that the mission’s commitment to defeating the gangs remains steadfast.
