iciHaiti - Dominican Republic : Two Haitians Arrested with 195 Cell Phones and 8 Tablets
The Dominican National Police (PND) arrested two Haitians : Dimachi Jeanchalrs (38), a resident of the El Hipódromo sector, at kilometer 17 of Las Américas, in Santo Domingo East, and Marcel Guerrer (38), a resident of kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway, in the National District. Both were in an irregular migration situation.

During their arrest, they were found in possession of 195 cell phones and eight tablets, presumably stolen, at the corner of Duarte Avenue and Enriquillo Park, in the Villa Francisca sector, in the National District.

According to the police report, at the time of the arrest, Jeanchalrs was found in possession of a suitcase containing 90 cell phones of various makes and models, as well as eight tablets; while Guerrer was found with a black backpack containing 105 cell phones.

This arrest follows a sharp increase in citizen complaints and the dissemination on social media of videos of cell phone thefts in public spaces, which led to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators.

The National Police announced that it is expanding its investigation to determine the true origin of the seized devices and their possible links to criminal networks involved in this type of crime.
