On Saturday, September 6, 2025, a Haitian woman identified as Maximat Milienne was arrested by members of the Dominican army during a routine check at the El Portón del Llano customs post (Elías Piña Province) while traveling in a flatbed truck.

During the check, she was found in possession of a very large sum of money in several currencies without having made the required customs declaration (3.5 million pesos (3,524,250), 14,250 USD, and 231,250 gourdes), totaling more than USD 60,000.

According to statements by Maximat Milienne, who claims to be a tradeswoman, she was going to the Hato Viejo market, in the municipal district of Sabana Cruz, to pay for goods.

She was taken with the money to the La Estrelleta Fortress, headquarters of the 3rd Infantry Brigade, for the corresponding legal proceedings.
