iciHaiti - Cap-Haitien : The Ministry of the Environment launches a project funded by Taiwan 12/09/2025 09:46:53
The launch ceremony was chaired by Moïse Fils Jean Pierre, Minister of the Environment, and was attended by Cheng Hao Hu, Ambassador of Taiwan (Republic of China) to Haiti, officials from the Ministry of the Environment, representatives of women's organizations in the department, academics, the National Solid Waste Management Service (SNGRS), and local authorities. In his remarks, Minister Jean Pierre, on behalf of the Government and the Presidential Transitional Council, expressed his gratitude to civil society organizations, local authorities, young people, students, and particularly women for their commitment and mobilization. "The climate crisis requires the contribution of all social groups, and particularly women, who represent 52% of the population. Responsible on a daily basis for the management of natural resources (food, water, and firewood) in households, they are at the heart of this fight. This is why this project places their full involvement as an essential condition for meeting the challenge of climate change." For his part, Ambassador Cheng Hao Hu praised the leadership of the Minister of the Environment in promoting such strategic themes as local development, gender equality, and adaptation to climate change. "These priorities are consistent with Taiwan's vision for Haiti. Together, our two countries aim to build a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable society." For several years, Taiwan has stood alongside Haiti to address environmental challenges, and this project is yet another example of this. Ms. Musette Thomas, Gender and Climate Change Manager and Project Focal Point, expressed her gratitude to the Taiwanese Embassy for its support. She stated that the project will be implemented in the municipalities of Cap-Haïtien, Milot, Limonade, and Quartier-Morin, areas rich in history, culture, and human potential. She added that interventions will focus on training local stakeholders, supporting government planning, community mobilization, and promoting women's initiatives. IH/ iciHaiti
