On Wednesday, September 17th, at around 1:30 a.m., a terrible road accident occurred on the RN1 at the southern entrance to Saint-Marc, near the town of Jeanton 1, not far from the Frécynneau police station. A trailer truck (TM 12868) and a public transport van (TP 36036) traveling between Pont-Sondé and Montrouis collided. The death toll was at least eight (six women and two men) and five injured, several seriously. Only a 25-day-old baby was miraculously found safe and sound, according to Justice of the Peace Me Faneld's Filius Miche.

However, the total number of injured is higher. Medical staff at Saint-Nicolas Hospital in Saint-Marc (HSN) confirmed that they had received between 7 and 10 injured people in the emergency room before the Justice of the Peace's report, which would increase the total number of injured to between 12 and 15.

According to witnesses, the truck attempted to overtake the van on a narrow bend and overturned onto the van, crushing it and its passengers.
