iciHaiti - Environment : Massacre River in flood, flooding in Ouanaminthe
On the evening of Thursday, September 25, 2025, the Massacre River flooded due to torrential rains that hit the region, causing flooding in neighborhoods and agricultural plantations on the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

The flood crossed the bridge of the CODEVI free zone, where the waters entered without causing any damage. On the other side, the "Gaya" neighborhood of Ouanaminthe was submerged by muddy waters from the river, following the overflow of the canal built on Haitian territory.

In the regions of Vigía, Coco, and Sánchez, farmers reported significant damage to rice fields due to strong currents that swept away trees and soil.

"I've never seen such a high flood of this river," said Ramón Pichardo, a rice farmer from the Vigía region, bordering the municipality of Dajabón.

Friday, September 26th, despite still cloudy skies and high temperatures, no new rain was recorded.
