iciHaiti - Health : Training on non-communicable diseases
The West Health Directorate (DSO) of the Ministry of Public Health, in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), organized two training sessions in Port-au-Prince for 50 Multi-Purpose Community Health Workers (ASCP), divided into two groups of 25 participants.

These training sessions enabled the ASCPs to strengthen their skills in the prevention, early detection, and referral of serious cases related to noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), such as diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic respiratory diseases, and certain cancers. Through practical workshops, role-playing exercises, and interactive discussions, participants deepened their knowledge of NCD warning signs and prevention strategies.

Beyond NCDs, the training also covered key topics such as epidemiological surveillance and good hygiene practices in sites hosting people displaced by gang violence. These skills are considered essential to ensure rapid access to care and maintain health in highly vulnerable contexts.

Following this training, the ASCPs are now better equipped to support communities, reduce health risks, and effectively intervene on the front lines in responding to the needs of displaced populations.
