In response to a surge in cholera cases reported in the West Department, particularly in the commune of Pétion-Ville and its surrounding areas, Dr. Gabriel Thimothé, Director General of the Ministry of Public Health, chaired a special meeting this week to coordinate urgent actions.

This meeting, attended by all central directorates and the West Departmental Directorate, aims to contain the resurgence of the Vibrio cholerae bacterium and prevent its spread nationwide.

An immediate action plan was adopted, including the following key measures :

• Intensification of public awareness on good hygiene practices, including handwashing and washing fruits and vegetables before consumption;

• Mobilization of the Task Force for a coordinated response;

• Availability of chlorinated water points at service institutions and public places;

• Mandatory notification of cases by departmental surveillance teams;

• Reactivation of Acute Diarrhea Treatment Centers (CTDA) where appropriate...
