iciHaiti - Politic : The Country Team celebrates the 80th anniversary of the UN
On Friday, October 24, the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Haiti celebrated United Nations Day this year, marking the 80th anniversary of the UN.

"The UNCT is proud to be part of this institution, and even more honored to serve in a Member State such as Haiti, one of the founding countries of the United Nations and one of the first in the contemporary world to uphold the values of freedom, respect, and the protection of human rights. These values guide our actions as an organization, in Haiti and around the world.

As Secretary-General António Guterres recalled in his message of the day, 'On this United Nations Day, let's stand together and realize the extraordinary promise of your United Nations.'

"Within the United Nations Country Team in Haiti, we echo this message by reaffirming our unity in supporting the authorities, civil society, youth and women's associations, and the Haitian population as a whole in responding to the current crises, whether governance, humanitarian, health, or security-related. We remain mobilized to protect and assist families displaced by instability and gang violence, as well as migrants deported to Haiti, ensuring that no one is left behind.

We remain committed to supporting the strengthening of the health system to ensure equitable access to care for all. More than ever, we stand together in support of efforts to create sustainable and decent jobs, as well as to ensure food security by strengthening Haitian agriculture to guarantee local, sustainable production that is accessible to all, while consolidating national food sovereignty.

We reaffirm our collective commitment to support actions that enable children and young people to fully enjoy their rights to protection, health, and education, and to create conditions conducive to the proper functioning of basic services. We remain committed to helping Haiti achieve a sustainable recovery, leaving no one behind, and to building communities more resilient to multiple crises.

We remain firmly committed to actions that promote peace, respect for human rights, sustainable development, the promotion of art and culture, the green transition, the fight against gender-based and sexual violence, institutional transparency, and the fight against corruption.

On this day, we collectively call on all national actors and development partners to work towards realizing the promise of a stable, prosperous, and vibrant Haiti within the United Nations family."
