On Friday, November 7, 2025, Smith Augustin, the Presidential Transitional Advisor, addressed the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
In his remarks, Advisor Smith Augustin emphasized that small island States like Haiti, despite being low emitters of greenhouse gases, are disproportionately affected by the impacts of climate change. He called on industrialized countries to honor their commitments regarding climate finance, in support of adaptation and resilience for the most vulnerable nations.
He also highlighted Haiti's efforts, particularly through the implementation of its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45870-haiti-climate-change-validation-of-the-multi-billion-usd-country-program.html , the development of a National Adaptation Plan, and its adherence to the Climate Resilience Program (PPRC). He emphasized the urgent need to strengthen national capacities to better respond to increasingly frequent climate disasters.
