Members of the Dominican Army assigned to the 10th Infantry Battalion seized 840 cartons of 10 packs of 20 contraband cigarettes originating from Haiti during an operation conducted in the border area of the municipality of Pepillo Salcedo (Manzanillo), Dajabón province.

The seizure occurred when military patrols spotted Haitians attempting to illegally bring Capital brand cigarettes into the country.

Upon seeing the soldiers, the smugglers fled by boat, abandoning several crates containing a total of 168,000 cigarettes.

The illicit merchandise was transferred to the Beller Fortress, Headquarters of the 10th Infantry Battalion of the Dominican Army, where it was impounded pending legal proceedings.
