iciHaiti - Health : Government Health Report

At a press conference, Bertrand Sinal, the Minister of Public Health, presented his report one year after taking office.

Recognizing that human resources cannot function without adequate support, the Ministry distributed medicines, equipment, and medical supplies to all 10 departments, despite security and logistical challenges. A total of nine 40-foot containers were shipped and strategically distributed throughout the country, with the aim of reducing healthcare costs, particularly for the most vulnerable populations. The Minister emphasized that 98% of these supplies were funded by the Public Treasury.

At the heart of this report lies the issue of human resources. In twelve months, 1,708 appointments were made, out of a total of 2,646 pending applications, in order to strengthen the capacity of the health sector across the country.

These appointments include :

• 70 nurses who passed the 2023–2024 state exams, whose applications were pending (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45500-haiti-health-appointment-of-70-new-nurses-video.html);

• 233 nurses recruited following a national competitive examination organized by the Ministry;

• 120 healthcare professionals across all categories (general practitioners and specialists, pharmacists, nurses, midwives, laboratory technicians, and medical biologists);

• 121 managers appointed to the Ministry's central directorates.

In the most difficult-to-reach areas, special contracts and assignment letters were also issued to ensure the continuity of healthcare services.

Furthermore, more than 30 construction and rehabilitation projects—including hospitals, community referral hospitals (HCRs), health centers, and clinics—are underway or completed across the country, with several inaugurations, reopenings of closed institutions, and installations of solar systems to ensure energy continuity.
