iciHaiti - Religion : Upcoming appointment of a new Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti

On Thursday, January 29, 2026, Laurent Saint-Cyr, the President pro tempore and Coordinator of the Transition Council, met at the Apostolic Nunciature (Morne Calvaire, Pétion-Ville) with Reverend Father Claude Éric Andriamirado, representative of the Apostolic Nuncio, who had recently returned to Haiti after several months' absence.

During this meeting, Reverend Father Andriamirado discussed with Laurent Saint-Cyr concerns related to the current national situation and expressed the solidarity of the Holy See and the Vatican with the Haitian people during this particularly trying time for the nation.

On this occasion, Father Andriamirado announced that the Holy See will promptly initiate the necessary steps to appoint a new Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti. This initiative follows on from the sustained advocacy efforts led by Laurent Saint-Cyr, both in Haiti and during his discussions with high-ranking officials of the Holy See abroad.

It is worth recalling that Laurent Saint-Cyr notably met with Archbishop Francisco Escalante Molina in Japan, as well as with Archbishop Eugene Nugent, former Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti, in Qatar, and other high-ranking officials of the Holy See and the Catholic Church in Haiti and abroad, to emphasize the importance of strengthening the Vatican's diplomatic presence in Haiti.

This meeting demonstrates the Holy See's particular attention to the situation in Haiti and its commitment to continuing to support the country in its efforts toward peace, dialogue, and stability.
