On Wednesday, February 4th, 2026, the Holy See announced the appointment of Nigerian Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti.

With this appointment, the Vatican is strengthening its diplomatic ties with Haiti. Archbishop Okolo has over thirty years of diplomatic experience with the Holy See.

Having entered the Vatican diplomatic corps in 1990, Archbishop Okolo has served in several regions of the world, including Sri Lanka, Haiti, Australia, and Switzerland.

A polyglot, he is known for his mastery of diverse cultural contexts.

His return to Haiti could strengthen relations between the Vatican and Haiti, in a national context marked by significant and multifaceted challenges.
