iciHaiti - Winter Olympics : Wishes from the Ministry of Youth and Sports

The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Civic Action (MJSAC) wishes the Haitian delegation every success in the XXV Olympic Winter Games, taking place from February 6 to 22, 2026, in Milan and Cortina, Italy.

93 countries, 3,500 athletes, 16 Olympic disciplines, and 6 Paralympic sports are participating in this major event. Only two Haitian skiers are representing our country: Stevenson Savart (25 years old), competing in cross-country skiing, is participating in these Games for the first time and will be the flag bearer for the delegation at the opening ceremony; and Richardson Viano (23 years old), competing in alpine skiing for the second time.

On February 8, Stevenson will compete in the 20 km skiathlon (10 km classic cross-country skiing and 10 km skating). On February 10, he will participate in the 1.5 km classic sprint, a race Stevenson is counting on. On February 13, he will compete in the 10 km individual skating event, and finally, on February 21, he will race in the 50 km classic style event. Savart aims to break into the world's top 50.

Richardson Viano made a splash at the Beijing Winter Olympics (2022) by becoming the first Haitian to compete in the slalom event. At just 19 years old, the skier finished in a respectable 34th place out of 89 in the Olympic slalom. Viano will compete on February 14 and 16, 2026, respectively in the giant slalom and slalom, with the goal of breaking into the world's top 30.

The Haitian delegation is distinguished by its ski suit, a creation of Italian-Haitian artist Stella Jean, inspired by the artistic universe of Haitian visual artist Édouard Duval-Carrié. This hand-painted outfit has been widely praised as an aesthetic and symbolic success on the international stage. https://www.haitilibre.com/article-46798-haiti-actualite-zapping.html

The MJAC wishes our two skiers the best of luck and hopes they will proudly represent Haiti under the Italian sky.
