iciHaiti - Grand-South : Monitoring of the drinking water network works

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Engineer Théophil Ostinvil, Director General of the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA), conducted a tour to supervise and evaluate the rehabilitation and expansion work on the drinking water network in the city of Les Cayes.

Accompanied by the South Regional Director and representatives of the Spanish Cooperation/UrbAyiti, as well as his technical team, Ostinvil carried out a series of activities in Les Cayes to ensure the progress of the work and compliance with contractual obligations.

This latest tour focused on the following activities:

• Meetings with companies under contract with DINEPA to assess the progress of the work and any challenges encountered, while also considering the delivery timeline;

• Site visits to assess the actual condition of the infrastructure undergoing rehabilitation and expansion.

At each stage, Engineer Théophil Ostinvil emphasized the urgent need to accelerate the pace of work while strictly adhering to the technical standards and quality requirements of DINEPA. He also reaffirmed the institution's commitment to sustainably improving access to drinking water in the city of Les Cayes.

It should be noted that this work is being carried out thanks to funding from the Spanish Cooperation (AECID) and the European Union, through the UrbAyiti program, granted to the Haitian government via DINEPA.

At the conclusion of its tour of the Grand-South region, the DINEPA (National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation) reiterated its commitment to continuing efforts to strengthen the country's water infrastructure, particularly in strategic areas such as the city of Les Cayes, in order to guarantee a more reliable, continuous, and accessible drinking water service for the population.
