Ralf Etienne made history by becoming the first Haitian para-skier to participate in the Milan-Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games. On Friday, March 13, 2026, he finished 59th in the standing giant slalom, despite an encouraging first run where he was ranked 33rd. "Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé wishes to express his immense pride in the participation of para-skier Ralf Etienne in the Milan-Cortina Paralympic Winter Games. By participating in this major international sporting event, he becomes the first Haitian athlete with a disability [amputated leg] to represent our country at the Paralympic Winter Games, thus marking a historic milestone in the development and promotion of Haitian sport." Ralf Etienne's remarkable journey eloquently illustrates the values of resilience, courage, and perseverance that characterize the Haitian people. Through his participation in the giant slalom, he embodies the strength of human determination and reminds us that obstacles, however great, can be overcome through willpower, discipline, and faith in the future. Beyond the sporting aspect, this presence on the international stage is a powerful symbol of hope and inspiration for Haitian youth. It also testifies to the ability of our compatriots to proudly represent the nation and enhance Haiti's image throughout the world. The Government extends its warmest congratulations to Ralf Etienne for this exceptional achievement and expresses its full support in this competition. At this historic moment, the entire nation joins him in celebrating this example of self-transcendence and national pride. May this journey inspire our younger generations to believe in their talents, to cultivate excellence, and to pursue, with determination and dignity, the building of a better future for Haiti.
