iciHaiti - Environment : Official Launch of the National Program «Konbit Haïti Zéro Déchet»

On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, as part of World Recycling Day, Valéry Fils-Aimé, the Minister of the Environment, officially launched the national program "Konbit Haïti Zéro Déchet" (Konbit Haiti Zero Waste) at a press conference held in conjunction with Daril Balthazar, the Director General of the National Solid Waste Management Service (SNGRS), and the mayors of Pétion-Ville, Delmas, Tabarre, Cité Soleil, and Port-au-Prince.

This program aims to establish a new national dynamic in urban sanitation and integrated solid waste management.

In his address, the Minister emphasized the importance of close collaboration between authorities, civil society, technical and financial partners, and municipalities, which are key players in the effective implementation of this initiative. He stressed the need to unite all stakeholders around a shared vision for a healthy environment.

For his part, Daril Balthazar, Director General of the SNGRS, reaffirmed his institution's commitment to supporting the program's implementation, particularly through strengthening the operational, logistical, and technical capacities necessary for the sustainable improvement of the waste management system.

In his remarks, Arsonval Alexandre, Mayor of Tabarre, praised the synergy established among the various municipalities of the metropolitan region, emphasizing that this inter-municipal cooperation is a key lever for achieving the set objectives.

Through this initiative, the Government intends to lay the foundations for structural change in waste management in Haiti, by promoting more effective governance, better institutional coordination, and increased community involvement. The "Konbit Haiti Zero Waste" Program thus represents a decisive step toward building a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient environment.
