First birth at Ti Palmis Hospital

As part of the Government's policy to bring healthcare services closer to the population, particularly in the most remote areas of Haiti, the Ministry of Public Health is thrilled to announce the first birth at the newly opened Ti Palmis Community Referral Hospital (Nippes Department).

Initially limited to basic care and long remaining a project and an under-equipped health center, the Ti Palmis site has been transformed into a Community Referral Hospital (CRH) thanks to joint funding from the government and partners. This funding enabled the installation of an operating theater and a neonatal unit. The deployment of qualified personnel, including resident physicians and specialized nurse-midwives, has made the hospital operational 24/7.

This birth, that of 22-year-old Michelda Michel's baby, marks a highly symbolic milestone. This demonstrates the concrete efforts undertaken by the State to guarantee equitable access to quality healthcare, as close as possible to communities.

Beyond the event itself, it is a sign of hope for an entire population that has long faced the challenges of remoteness from healthcare facilities. Now, women can give birth in safer conditions, surrounded by qualified personnel, without having to travel long distances at the risk of their lives.
