In southern Haiti, 163 soil samples were collected for analysis 30/03/2026 10:18:11
On Friday, March 27, 2026, the Ministry of the Environment received 163 soil samples collected in southern Haiti at the American University of the Caribbean (in Les Cayes). Agronomist Desrosiers Pierre Joab, a technical officer with the Southern Departmental Directorate, oversaw the process. This initiative is part of the Caribbean Small Islands Developing States (CSIDS)/SOILCARE project, led by the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM). The project aims to update and strengthen national and regional soil quality data, which is essential for sustainable land management and improved environmental policies. This collection focused on the departments of South, Nippes, and Grand'Anse, following the collection in the North. These samples will be analyzed to produce reliable technical data, contributing to the fight against soil degradation and strengthening Haiti's resilience to climate change. Aware of the degradation of Haitian soil, Valéry Fils-Aimé, Minister of the Environment, is committed to promoting sustainable land management based on science, institutional cooperation, and environmental innovation.
