Haiti - Mexico : Towards a strengthening and diversification of trade relations

On Saturday, March 28, 2026, James Monazard, Minister of Commerce and Industry, on the sidelines of the 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), met with Luiz Tosendo Gutiérrez Romano, Vice Minister of Economy of Mexico, in charge of foreign trade and international affairs.

This exchange allowed both parties to examine prospects for strengthening and diversifying trade and economic relations between Haiti and Mexico. Discussions focused on investment opportunities in Haiti in high-potential sectors, the possibility of establishing a structured bilateral trade framework, the organization of economic prospecting missions, and the development of entrepreneurship and increased support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

At the conclusion of this meeting, it was agreed to hold a broader working meeting next month, bringing together key stakeholders from the textile and trade sectors of both countries. This initiative aims to identify concrete areas of cooperation and define the modalities of a structured, sustainable, and mutually beneficial partnership.
