At the Naval Military Academy in Argentina, a Haitian cadet is making our flag proud

A 28-year-old officer on commission (under contract) with the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H), Thamara Kendia Polo cultivated the values of hard work, courage and discipline from a very young age. Her deep attachment and devotion to her country led her to join a class of young cadets in Haiti at the age of 21, where she graduated at the top of her class.

Thanks to her outstanding results and exemplary conduct, this young Haitian soldier was selected in 2022 for a scholarship to the prestigious Naval Military Academy in Argentina to specialize in Marine Infantry.

Determined to honor the motto of this specialized branch of the military, namely, "Marine Infantry is not for those who want it, but for those who can do it," Thamara Kendia Polo seized every opportunity to push herself and excel throughout this demanding, intense, and rigorous training. As a Brigadier of Merit, our young Cadet was entrusted by the management of the Naval School from the fourth year onwards with certain important responsibilities, particularly in the area of supervision and management.

In accordance with the long tradition of the Argentine Naval Academy, to mark the end of her training in the Marine Infantry, Cadet Polo, like all cadets in her class, will undertake a training voyage aboard the training ship, Fragata ARA Libertad, scheduled to depart from the port of Buenos Aires on April 11, 2026.

During this six-month sea training period, the frigate will travel throughout the Americas, with port calls at no fewer than ten ports, including Fortaleza in Brazil, Kingston in Jamaica, and San Juan in Puerto Rico, as well as visits to several US ports (New Orleans, Boston, New York, Baltimore, and Norfolk). The voyage will also include participation in the celebration of the 250th anniversary of US independence on July 4.

Determined to promote, in accordance with the Prime Minister's guidance, the professionalization of the FAd'H through the development and diversification of technical and strategic skills, Mario Andrésol, Minister of Defense, commends the brilliant career of this Haitian cadet who has just obtained first place in her specialty at the Naval Military School of Argentina and 12th out of her entire class.
