Les Cayes : More than 10M Euros to strengthen infrastructure and reduce the risk of flooding

Tuesday April 7, 2026, in the presence of members of the government, representatives of the European Union, France and Spain, as well as local authorities, the Head of Government signed the work and supervision contracts relating to drainage and rainwater management in Les Cayes

This initiative is part of the URBAYTI program, financed mainly by the European Union through the 11th European Development Fund (EDF), reoriented following the 2021 earthquake in order to better respond to urban vulnerabilities. With an investment of more than 10 million euros, this program aims to strengthen the resilience of infrastructure and reduce the risk of flooding in an area regularly exposed to climatic hazards.

The ceremony was also marked by the symbolic delivery of five heavy machines to Les Cayes town hall, intended to improve waste management, road maintenance and response to urban emergencies. In addition, ten local operators received their certification for the management of this equipment, thus contributing to the strengthening of local technical capacities.

In his speech, the Prime Minister underlined the importance of coordinated and sustainable action. The Government intends to ensure regular monitoring of the implementation of the works, in collaboration with local authorities and technical partners, in order to guarantee lasting results for the benefit of the populations.

International partners, for their part, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Haiti in its reconstruction and sustainable development efforts, while emphasizing cooperation based on transparency and efficiency.
