Inauguration of a molecular biology laboratory at Les Cayes General Hospital

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé officially inaugurated a molecular biology laboratory at Lea Cayes General Hospital, accompanied by Dr. Sinald Bertrand, the Minister of Public Health. The ceremony took place in the presence of the ambassadors of the European Union, France, Canada, and Spain, as well as Charles Jean-Jacques, National Authorizing Officer for the European Development Funds (EDF), highlighting the importance of this infrastructure for strengthening the Haitian healthcare system.

In a context where the need for rapid and reliable diagnostics remains crucial, this molecular biology laboratory represents a major step forward for patient care in the South Department. It will notably improve the detection of infectious diseases and strengthen the healthcare system's response capacity to health emergencies.

The Prime Minister toured the facilities, spoke with medical staff, and met with patients. In a moment of profound humanity, he reiterated that health remains a national priority and a fundamental right for every citizen.

"We are not here simply to inaugurate a building, but to affirm the presence, solidarity, and responsibility of the State toward every Haitian man and woman," declared the Prime Minister, who emphasized the need to bring public services closer to the people.

International partners welcomed this achievement, the result of sustained cooperation, and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Haiti in strengthening its healthcare infrastructure and technical capacities.
