Passing of Professor Jean Fénol Métellus

The Ministry of National Education learned with profound sadness of the passing of Professor Jean Fénol Métellus, which occurred on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

Known for his academic rigor, as a passionate researcher and dedicated leader in the cause of higher education in Haiti, Dr. Métellus devoted a large part of his life to the training of young people and the strengthening of the country's university structures.

For several years, he served the Ministry as Deputy Coordinator of the Departmental Public Universities.

In December 2025, by Presidential Decree, he was appointed Vice-President of the Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research.

His commitment, particularly within the Conference of Rectors, Presidents, and Directors of Higher Education Institutions of Haiti (CORPUHA), testifies to his vision of quality education as an engine of development.

In this time of sorrow, Minister Vijonet Déméro, on behalf of all the Ministry staff, extends his deepest condolences to the family of Professor Jean Fénol Métellus, to his loved ones, and to the entire university and scientific community, deeply affected by this immense loss.

The Ministry pays tribute to the memory of this great servant of the Nation, whose life's work will serve as an inspiration for future generations of educators.
