Citadelle Laferrière tragedy : Gov declares 3 days of national mourning

The Government informs the Nation that, following the tragedy at the Citadelle Laferrière, an extraordinary Council of Ministers meeting was held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, via videoconference, chaired by Prime Minister Fils-Aimé.

As a sign of national solidarity with the bereaved families, the Government announces that it will cover the funeral expenses of the victims. Consequently, the Government has decreed three days of national mourning throughout the country, on Tuesday, April 14, Wednesday, April 15, and Thursday, April 16, 2026.

During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast, as a sign of remembrance, respect, and national unity.

In this hour of profound sorrow, the Republic bows solemnly before the memory of the victims and extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

The Prime Minister dispatched Interior Minister Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé to the North to offer the Nation's official condolences to the families of the victims in these tragic circumstances.
