On Friday, April 17, 2026, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé participated in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Haiti and Taiwan, organized with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Taiwan (Republic of China) in Haiti. Fils-Aimé expressed the Haitian people's profound gratitude for the Taiwanese people's unwavering support and enduring friendship. He reaffirmed the Haitian authorities' commitment to developing this partnership into areas of cooperation with greater added value. He highlighted the tangible progress resulting from this collaboration since 1956, particularly in the areas of food security, road infrastructure, public health, and youth training. Significant contributions include the construction of hospitals, the strengthening of public institutions, and initiatives supporting agricultural and technological development. The Prime Minister also commended Taiwan’s unwavering support during critical times, particularly after the 2010 earthquake and during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as its efforts to improve access to water and renewable energy in remote areas. Underlining the importance of human capital, the Prime Minister highlighted scholarship and skills transfer programs, essential for fostering a new generation of development actors. Finally, as part of national priorities, he called for strengthened security cooperation, a prerequisite for holding free, inclusive, and credible elections throughout the country. "Seventy years of friendship provide a solid foundation for building an even more promising future," he concluded. IH/ iciHaiti
