Strengthening trade relations with Brazil 22/04/2026 09:41:15
On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, James Monazard, Minister of Commerce and Industry (MCI), met with Guilherme Nascentes da Silva, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Brazil to Haiti, to deepen and strengthen trade and institutional relations between the two countries. At the heart of the discussions was the strengthening of bilateral trade relations, with the prospect of the upcoming signing of a memorandum of understanding, as well as the intensification of cooperation between the MCI and Brazilian institutions. Discussions also focused on developing entrepreneurship and strengthening the Ministry's technical capacities. In a results-oriented approach, both parties discussed the need to work on developing a trade facilitation agreement, as well as the establishment of joint trade missions. These initiatives would include exploratory missions for the benefit of chambers of commerce, business associations, and merchant groups from both countries. The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Brazilian companies interested in investing in industrial parks in Haiti, in line with its strategy to promote investment and revitalize the national productive sector. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening institutional capacities through the implementation of training and professional immersion programs for MCI (Ministry of Commerce and Industry) staff, notably within counterpart technical and administrative institutions. Support for the Ministry's structuring projects was also discussed as a priority area for cooperation. Finally, both parties discussed opportunities to support priority MCI projects, with a view to institutional modernization and improving the performance of public services related to trade and industry. This meeting is part of a dynamic effort to consolidate relations between Haiti and Brazil, with the objective of promoting a mutually beneficial economic partnership based on skills transfer, private sector development, and the facilitation of trade.
