Non-compliance with fuel prices, gas stations sealed

On Wednesday, April 22, as part of the implementation of measures to regulate fuel prices set by the Haitian government, a strict inspection operation was conducted in the commune of Ouanaminthe.

This operation took place in the presence of Dionel Germain, Departmental Delegate for the Northeast; Elisma Florvil, Government Commissioner to the Court of First Instance of Ouanaminthe; Renaud Pierre, Justice of the Peace for the commune; the Mayor and his two deputies; and the Departmental Director of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

During this operation, several gas stations were inspected to verify their compliance with the official prices in effect. Five gas stations were sealed off by the Justice of the Peace, in accordance with applicable legal procedures, for failing to comply with the prices set by the government.

One gas station was found to be in compliance, respecting the regulated prices.

The relevant authorities have announced the continuation of this operation throughout the Northeast Department, with the aim of ensuring strict adherence to regulated prices and protecting consumers.

On Thursday, April 23, the Northeast Departmental Directorate of Commerce and Industry reported that a meeting was held with the relevant authorities, including the Northeast Departmental Delegate, the Northeast Departmental Director of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Government Commissioner, the mayor of the municipality, and the Deputy Delegate. The owners of service stations in Ouanaminthe also participated in this meeting.

The authorities firmly reiterated that no discussions will be held regarding fuel prices. The prices set by the Haitian government remain in effect and must be strictly respected by all operators in the sector.

Gas station managers were asked to consult with one another to reach an agreement for the resumption of normal operations. However, the authorities wish to emphasize that this process is taking place within a reasonable timeframe and that their patience remains limited.

In the event of non-compliance with current regulations or the absence of an agreement between the parties involved, the seals affixed to the service stations will remain in place until further notice.

The competent authorities also inform the public that they will not hesitate to use all measures provided for by law to ensure compliance with the decisions made.
