Towards a strengthening of cooperation ties with Spain 01/05/2026 10:02:00
On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Sandra Paulemon, Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, received Marco Antonio Peñín Toledano, the Spanish Ambassador to Haiti, at her office. Mr. Peñín was accompanied by María del Carmen Blanco Reinosa, Coordinator of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). This meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation ties and promote better coordination of interventions for the benefit of national development. During the discussions, the Spanish Ambassador outlined the main aspects of Spanish cooperation in key sectors, such as education, school meals, and water and sanitation. He emphasized his country's commitment to promoting more effective coordination of external aid and to consolidating a stronger, more robust, and sustainable partnership with Haiti. Minister Paulemon commended Spain's interventions in Haiti and advocated for a better geographical distribution of aid to avoid concentrating projects in certain areas at the expense of others. She emphasized the need for more balanced national coverage of interventions to maximize their impact on the population and respond more equitably to the needs of the country. Paulemon also reiterated the Government's commitment to strengthening aid coordination, particularly through existing institutional mechanisms, while ensuring that projects align with national priorities, in accordance with the National Pact for Stability and the Organization of Elections : security, economic and social recovery, and the organization of elections.
