The Government stands with the people of the Southeast

On May 1st, Emmanuel Ménard, the Minister of Culture and Communication, was dispatched to Jacmel by the Prime Minister to represent the Government on the occasion of the patronal feast of Saints Jacques and Philippe.

At the solemn high mass followed by the traditional Te Deum, the parish priest called on the population not to succumb to fear and to remain vigilant. The prelate addressed the authorities, asking them to redouble their efforts and to invite the Minister to speak.

Emmanuel Ménard expressed Prime Minister Fils-Aimé's full solidarity with the people of the Southeast, particularly those of Seguin, who have recently been severely affected by terrorist attacks. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-47349-zapping-haiti-of-april-21-2026.html He highlighted the swift response of the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the new measures implemented at the departmental level to strengthen security and provide assistance to the population.

The Minister reaffirmed the Government's firm commitment to creating a favorable environment for holding elections to guarantee peace, political stability, and a return to republican order.

Responding to a request from the parish priest regarding difficulties encountered in processing a file related to the reconstruction of the Cathedral, Minister Ménard promised prompt follow-up from the relevant state administrative services.

Coinciding with Agriculture and Labor Day, Jacmel's patron saint festival featured various cultural events and large agricultural and craft fairs (https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-47430-jacmel-agro-gastronomic-and-craft-fair-may-1st-2nd.html), highlighting the hard work of farmers and the prodigious talent of artisans in the Southeast.
