On Friday, May 8, 2026, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, visiting Rome, met with representatives of the Community of Sant'Egidio (founded in 1968, with 60,000 lay members in 74 countries worldwide). Discussions focused on peacebuilding, youth, social cohesion, and preparations for an interfaith conference in Haiti. The discussions highlighted the importance of collective action in support of Haitian youth, who are facing the consequences of the security crisis, a lack of economic opportunities, and social marginalization. The Prime Minister emphasized that lasting stability in Haiti will necessarily require public policies that offer young people concrete prospects in education, training, employment, and civic participation. The discussions also highlighted the essential role of religious communities, local organizations, and civil society in promoting dialogue, solidarity, and violence prevention. The Prime Minister commended the Sant'Egidio Community's unwavering commitment to vulnerable populations and its initiatives in education and youth development in Haiti. The meeting also focused on preparations for an upcoming interfaith conference in Haiti, aimed at promoting a shared message of peace, national unity, and collective responsibility in the face of the challenges facing the country.
