Training for Executive Agents of the West Department

The Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT) carried out a training workshop for recently appointed Executive Agents (Mayors) of the West department. It was the Secretary of State for Territorial Communities, Sharina Lochard accompanied by Mallew Étienne Director of Territorial Communities, who on behalf of Minister Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, officially opened this two-day training course for the benefit of mayors in particular from Montrouis, Arcahaie, Cornillon, Kenscoff, Pétion-Ville and Port-au-Prince.

In his appropriate intervention, Mallew Étienne, referring to the difficult national context, thanked the participants for their interest in taking part in this session. He also underlined that this workshop is of capital importance and will allow participants to acquire better mastery of local management tools and to exercise their functions with greater ease.

For her part, Secretary of State Lochard, emphasized the key role of Mayors in local life and calls on them to demonstrate model and exemplary behavior. "As Mayors, you are entrusted with an important administrative function and you must manage the affairs of the municipality in compliance with legal and social rules," she insisted.

Further, she underlined that Mayors operate in a particularly difficult context, which requires them to have competence, commitment and a sense of responsibility to restore municipal administration. She hopes, on behalf of Minister Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, that this training, which will be replicated for the benefit of other municipalities, will allow participants to refine their technical, individual and political capacities and to work for the benefit of the population.

The activity took place in a friendly atmosphere, marked by constructive exchanges between participants and trainers. Through this training, the first in the series, the Ministry of the Interior and Local Authorities supervises Executive Agents and calls on their commitment to more effective local governance that is closer to citizens.
